Auto Transformer
Auto transformer is also voltage transformer. The auto transformer is based on the characteristics of the tapped windings. This device is really more in the nature of a circuit arrangement than a distinct breed of component aspect. In some special cases, electrically it is almost identical with the standard two winding transformer connected in series. Here the primary is connected across the supply in the normal way. But the secondary is connected in series with the supply so that its voltage adds to the supply voltage when the output is taken across the both windings. Auto transformer generally is used to obtain small increments of voltage above the input voltage.
